Yes, all students are required to take the placement exams, which are used to advise students regarding their placement in the appropriate course. The Math placement exam is available via MySlice. For instructions on how to complete the placement exam, click here. Yes, all students are required to take the SummerStart seminar course (CLS 100). Topics include high school to college transition, academic expectations, university resources, critical thinking, study and time management skills and reflection. Course registration is completed by your school/college academic advising office based on your particular program and answers provided in your First Term Registration Qualtrics Survey. If you are interested in a particular course please include that information in your SummerStart application or email SummerStart@syr.edu with your preference. We will share that information with your school/college academic advising office but cannot guarantee enrollment. School/college advisors will register students approximately one to two weeks prior to the start of the program. Students have the ability to discuss course options by contacting their academic advisor. Many SummerStart courses have a maximum of 19 students. The small class sizes allow instructors to give students one-on-one attention and give students a better transition to college coursework. Room types available depends on which residence hall is assigned for SummerStart. Typically rooms will be either split or open doubles. All roommate pairings are selected at random. Students will find out their roommate during move-in. If you are in need of housing accommodations please contact Housing, Meal Plan, and I.D. Card Services directly at housing@syr.edu or by calling 315.443.2721
