Return From Leave of Absence

We miss you and are looking forward to having you back! We understand that students sometimes need to take a break. We hope your leave of absence was productive and that you are planning to return to your Orange campus soon.

We would like to remind you that we are still here to offer support while you are away from Syracuse University. Perhaps you have questions, would like guidance on the readmit process, or would like to let us know how you are doing. Contact us at orangesuccess@syr.edu.

If you are planning to return this fall, you should start the readmission process now. Steps to follow depending on type of leave include:

  • Personal Leave of Absence – Contact your school/college academic advisor to discuss the best strategy to return to full time studies, and to develop a support plan. After this conversation, you will be asked to complete an online Application for Readmission form.
  • Medical Leave of Absence – Contact Student Outreach and Support at 315.443.4357 to discuss any medical clearance and documentation needed to return.
  • Conduct Related – Contact Community Standards to discuss any outstanding sanctions pending. Once you are cleared to return, your home school/college advising office will be informed of clearance

Yes, regardless of the type of leave all students MUST submit an Application for Readmission Form.

We recommend connecting with your specific school/college academic advising office to confirm their internal readmit deadlines. Completed Applications for Readmission Forms should be submitted to your academic advisor/home college for processing.

A general guide for readmit deadlines are:

  • July 15 for fall return
  • December 1 for spring return

 

  • Connect with your academic advisor to discuss course selection
  • Reach out to your financial aid counselor to discuss finances
  • Check MySlice for the following:
    • Confirm enrollment appointment
    • Holds that will not allow you to register
  • Register for classes in MySlice

If you do not have an enrollment appointment please connect with your academic advisor. Please be aware that the registrar needs time to process readmit forms. After you submit your readmit form please allow a few days for processing.
